It’s a tip from my costuming and theatre friends! Take cheap (no, really cheap*) vodka, put it in a spray bottle, mist down the garment, and toss it in the dryer for 30 minutes. (Or put it outside in the sun for a few hours.) The vodka removes any lingering odors, such as cigarette smoke.

* Once I was buying a bottle of cheap horrible vodka so I could do this, and the drag queen who was running the cash register looked at me and said, “Oh little girl, no. Love yourself. Don’t.” I reassured them that it was for clothes cleaning, and then they patted my hand in relief.
