Because I remember disinformation being spread around the last election and I’m sure Russia will bring it back:

  • YOU CAN’T VOTE ONLINE.
  • YOU CAN’T VOTE FROM YOUR PHONE.
  • IN MANY STATES THERE ARE LEGAL CONSEQUENCES FOR PHOTOGRAPHING YOUR BALLOT.
  • DO NOT WEAR CAMPAIGN GEAR TO THE POLLS.
  • DO NOT TRY TO PERSUADE PEOPLE TO VOTE FOR A CANDIDATE AT THE POLLS.
  • DO NOT ENGAGE IN ANY KIND OF POLITICAL DISCOURSE AT THE POLLS.
  • NO ELECTION IS EVER A SURE THING, EVEN IF YOU’RE IN THE BLUEST OR REDDEST OF STATES.  IF SOMEONE TRIES TO TELL YOU THAT YOU CAN SIT THIS ONE OUT, THEY ARE EITHER IGNORANT OR MALICIOUS.
  • VOTE.

In Minneapolis we cover utility boxes with art to make them less of an eye-sore, and I am told it discourages graffiti and vandalism. The city allows anyone to contribute images for the utility boxes, and a panel selects a number each year to place on new utility boxes or on boxes in need of repair. This image was taken by a very old friend of mine—two of her photos were selected this year. Both are in south Minneapolis along Cedar Avenue near Lake Nokomis.

hey so the other day i saw some nail polish that said “formaldehyde free”, and, like, just let me take a second to say that i didn’t know some nail polish had formaldehyde?

but the point of this post is that it gave me an absolutely great idea to add “___ free” on products that have never conceivably contained that thing in the first place.

“try my new fruit snacks, they’re 100% gravy free!”
it is, actually, a completely true statement. i’m not lying by any means. but the sheer thought of what this message could possibly imply strikes instant fear into the heart of the consumer.

One of the first examples I heard of was a early Industrial-Era American beer company that touted its “steam cleaned bottles”

All beer companies steam cleaned their bottles, but because that one advertised it, their sales skyrocketed.

Which is both pretty funny and a good reminder to keep an eye out, because marketing is not your friend.
